Secondary school education for farming families will be discussed during a farmers' conference which will be held from May 22 to May 24 at Lincoln College. Mr D. B. McSweeney, lecturer in rural education at the college, who has organised this part of the programme, will speak an how to decide oh secondary education. After this a panel will discuss such questions as the relative merits of boarding schools and district high schools, the adequacy of the present provisions for boarding allowances, and how to deal with a fourth-form child who does not want to go back to school.
On the panel will be Mrs D. M. Shrimpton, who is a member of the selection panel for post-primary teacher scholarships. Mr J. U. Barclay. a farmer, who was a prime mover in the Young Farmers’ Club movement and is chairman of the Lincoln High School board of governors. Mr C. S. Knight, acting-senior inspector of post-primary schools, and Mr W. J. Jefferies, principal of the Ashburton Technical College.
