CHECKS ON VEHICLES
Road-Safety Campaign
A vehicle-fitness campaign was started by the Transport Department yesterday, and will continue until the end of the month. Vehicles will be stopped by officers of the department and checked by them and by vehicle inspectors. Particular emphasis will be placed on visibility, with checks on dirty windscreens and misted windows. Windscreen wipers and wiper blades will be checked, as will headlights, rear reflectors, tail-lights and rearvision mirrors.
Drivers’ licences will be checked to see whether they stipulate that the holder must wear spectacles. Brakes and tyres will, also be inspected School instructors will concentrate on t>he fitness of cycles at schools throughout the city The checks will be held both day and night. Motorists can also expect to have driving licences and warrants of fitness inspected if they are stopped.
