Profit Of £l4OO From Waimate
A net profit of £1457 18a 2d was made on the Rothman’s international athletic meeting, held at Victoria Park. Waimate. on December 31. the treasurer of the Waimate Amateur Athletic Club (Mr A. D. Morrison I reported to the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening. Mr Morrison Mid that an estimated crowd of between lO.doO and 11.000. including about 3000 children, had attended. The club had thought that if it had a good day it would make about £5OO profit. “When we got these figures, we were really amazed, he said.
Mr E. J. Bell, the president of the Waimate club, said that th* olub hoped to hold an open meeting on January 4. A modern-type roaebowl will be competed for in the Canterbury one-mile open championship next season for the first time. A letter from Mr H. I Austad offered the rosebowl as a trophy for any event ths centre chose. It will be known as the Harold Aus tad trophy
