TELEVISION SETS
Reasons For Shortage
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON. April 17. Television sets were likely to continue in short supply until the beginning of July. Mr B. I. Purdy, secretary of the Greater Wellington and Hutt Valley Retailers’ Association, said today. This was due to the N.Z.B.C.’s extension of telecasting into fringe areas. As a result the demand for sets had exceeded the limited supply and metropolitan dealers were now required to share their allocations with those in the newer reception areas
Mr Purdy said it was to be hoped the N.Z.B.C. would not continue to expand its services and create a demand beyond the industry’s capacity to produce which, after all, was governed by a rigid import licensing system.
