OLD PUPILS MEET
Welsh Group In City Three former pupils of Gowerton Grammar School, a co-educational school in South Wales, met in Christchurch yesterday. None, however, attended at the same time. They were the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning), Miss G. P. ThyerJones, president of the British Federation of Soroptimist Clubs, and Mrs E. Murray, who has lived in Christchurch for 17 years.
Mr and Mrs Maiming entertained Miss Thyer-Jones, Mrs Murray and Mrs D. J. Wales, president of the Soroptimist Club of Christchurch, at morning tea in the Mayor’s office.
Miss Thyer-Jones took a letter to Mr Manning from the Mayor of Llanelly (Mr William Davies). Though Gowerton is a small town, about 10 miles from Llanelly, Miss Thyer-Jones has met other former pupils of its grammar school in New Zealand and Australia. In Hastings she stayed with Dr. Neville Rees, an old boy of the school, now medical superintendent of the Memorial Hospital. In Sydney she met Mrs Gaynor Leaver, who had attended both Gowerton Grammar School and Swansea University with her. Mrs Murray, who returned to Wales for a visit last year to attend the Royal national eisteddfod in Llanelly, then took greetings to Mr Davies from Mr Manning. Mrs Murray had not met Miss Thyer-Jones previously, but their families have known each other for many years.
