Work Of C.W.I. At Balmoral
The Balmoral Country Women’s Institute gained second place in the Margaret Stuart pennant competition, says a report from the annual meeting. During the year the institute supported the “pennies for friendship” campaign and • the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, sponsored a child in England, and sent gifts of food, clothing and wool to organisations in Christchurch. Competition winners were: sewing, Miss M. Hammond; gardening, Mrs S. Popplewell and Miss M. Murgatroyd. equal 1; cooking, Mrs Popplewell; most entries, Mrs M. Walter.
The following officers were elected: president, Mrs D. Johns; vice-presidents. Mesdames A. V. Baker and M. Mason: secretary, Mrs M. Walter; assistant secretary. Mrs G. Brueber; treasurer, Mrs M. Miles; committee, Mesdames R. Milne, M. Mason, and F. Roberts.
