Sold It vsU be Poppy Dey in Christchurch tomorrow. About 65 pointe in the central area and many others in the suburbs will be manned throughout the day. At New Brighton sales will be made on Saturday. The Christchurch Returned Services’ Association hopes to sell about 80,000 poppies, most at which have been made by war pensioners in their homes during the year. Proceeds will finance welfare work among returned servicemen and their dependants.
Last year the association spent £5850 on welfare work, and about £3400 of thia was raised from poppy sales.
Christchurch is one of two centres in which poppies for New Zealand are made. Each year 450,000 poppies are made by returned servicemen here and distributed for sale throughout the South Island and parte of the North Island. Supplies for the rest of the country come from Auckland.
Gold For IMF.—The Fed - eral Treasurer (Mir Harold Holt) announced in a press Statement today that Australia had brought ite gold subscription to the International Monetary Fund up to the full 25 per cent, of its total subscription. Oan--berra, April IS.
