ANGLICAN MEN’S CONFERENCE
Bishop Of Auckland To Speak
The Bishop of Auckland (the Rt. Rev. E. A. Gowing) will arrive in Christchurch tomorrow evening to speak at the Anglican diocesan men’s conference, which will be held on Saturday. The conference will open with a service of Holy Communion in the Christchurch Cathedral at 7.30 am. A conference breakfast will be held at St. Matthew’s Church, Cranford street, where the conference sessions will be held. The celebrant at Communion and the chairman of the conference will be the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren). Bishop Gowing will speak on “The Church In Action In The Parish,” and ‘‘On Being The Church In The World.” Groups will discuss each address. The morning part of the conference will end with devotions conducted by the vice-principal of Christchurch
College (the Rev. Canon M. Peaston). Evensong, conducted by the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. W. A. Pyatt) will conclude the day. The conference represented part of the programme which the Church of England Mein’s Society was undertaking in its work of Christian education among men, the diocesan secretary (Mr M. Elder) said. It gave an opportunity for men of the church to share worship and fellowship and to draw inspiration, knowledge, and strength for their Christian thinking and living, outside normal parochial life.
