China’s Chairman of the Republic (Mr Liu Shao-chi) and the Indonesian President <Dr. Soekamo) left Djakarta today for the West Java capital of Bandung to begin a five-day tour of Java and Bali, according to a Djakarta dispatch. The Foreign Minister <Dr. Subandrio) said today that Dr. Soekamo and Mr Liu would hold “general discussions? on the island of Bali on Wednesday.
Dr. Subandrio spoke to reporters after a 45-minute meeting in the State Palace between Mr Liu, the Chinese Vice-Premier, Marshal Chen Yi, and Indonesian Cabinet Ministers. Dr. Subandrio said the meeting had been held "in a cordial and friendly atmosphere."
The Indonesian newspaper “Berita Minggu" quoted the Air Force Chief of Staff, ViceMarshal Omar Dhani, as saying that the Soviet Union will supply Indonesia with aircraft, equipment and spare parts for two more years. The newspaper also quoted the air marshal as saying rocket and missile installations were being built "at a number of sites" in Indonesia to provide protection against “any possible disturbance from outside.” He added the Air Force now possessed various types of guided-missiles—ground-to-air, air-to-air and air-to-ground. It would soon be getting ground-to-ground missiles. But he did not say who was supplying them or identify the types.
