ELECTIONS IN FIJI
Voting Starts Today (N.Z. Press Association) SUVA. April 16. Voting in the elections for the Legislative Council of Fiji will begin tomorrow at some of the more remote centres of this island group. Polling will continue this week and next and , electors at the main centres will vote on . Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27. All ballot boxes will be brought unopened to the headquarters of the returning officers for the various constituencies and votes will be counted and the results declared before the end of the month.
Women are voting for the first time in a Legislative Council in Fiji but although they are eligible to stand there are no women candidates.
There is also direct voting by Fijians for the first time. Hitherto the Fijian members of the Legislative Council have been chosen from a panel elected by the Council of Chiefs.
