EVEREST ATTEMPT
US. Teams May Try West Ridge (N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright) KATMANDU, April 15. The United States Everest expedition plans an attempt on the summit with two teams between April 20 and April 30. an expedition spokesman said by radio to-
day. A third team will be in reserve to try and reach the summit by the unclimbed west ridge if the monsoon holds off long enough. The expedition has already reconnoitred the west ridge to 25,100 ft and reported a possible but difficult steep route The spokesman said today the weather would be “the big factor.” Most Everest expeditions hope for a lull between westerly gales which lash the summit and the onset of the monsoon. Sometimes this lull does not occur and oqce the monsoon arrives it is considered impossible to reach the summit.
