REUNION OF McLachlans
Clan To Meet In City The centennial celebrations of the New Zealand branch of the McLachlans will be held in Christchurch this week-end. About 475 members of the clan from all parts of New Zealand are expected to attend. The first McLachlan to reach New Zealand—2l-year-old John McLachlan—arrived in Lyttelton aboard the Sebastapool from the Firth of Clyde in 1861 He was joined in 1863 by a brother. Alexander, and a year later by other members of the family From the original 11, the family had grown to 53 by the third generation. There are now 305 sixth-generation members and the first of the seventh generation—Paul Cooper—was born last week
The centennial celebrations will start on Saturday with an assembly and this will be followed by a buffet lunch, roll call and genera] social afternoon in the Addington tea kiosk A banquet and dance will be held in the evening. On Sunday, a church service will be held in the Leeston Presbyterian Church and the celebrations will end with afternoon tea in the Doyleston homestead. StrathLachlan—one of the original Canterbury homes of the family.
