IMPORTED TUNA
Objections To Duty Rebate (N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, April 16 Concern over the reports that Japanese interests in conjunction with a New Zealand juice factory are to bring duty-free tinned tuna into New Zealand was expressed by Mr G. J Wattle, the manager of Wattle Canneries. Ltd- Gisborne, today. “We do not mind competition, but under the present regulations we are unable to buy the tuna from the Japanese, although apparently similar regulations do not apply In the Cook Islands,” said Mr Wattle. ‘To allow the industry to progress faster in Gisborne we should be allowed access to Japanese tuna as well. This would supplement the snail quantities we can catch locally.”
