Negro Asks For Federal Court (N.Z. Preu Aun.—Copyright) BIRMINGHAM (Alabama). April IS. Counsel for the integration leader, Martin Luther King, argued today that the negro minister could not get a fair trial in Birmingham, United Press International reported They asked that he be tried in a Federal court.
Nine more negroes were arrested shortly before noon as negroes continued the 13-day-old desecration drive Dr. King has led. The negroes had attempted to be served at a department store lunch counter. More than 250 arrests have been made aince protest demonstrations and “sit-ins" began in Birmingham on April 3.
Dr. King was charged along with 53 others last week with parading without a licence. He was returned to his cell after the hearing today. Negro integrationists had promised a protest demonstration during swearing-in ceremonies for a mayor and nine city council men today, but the demonstration was not held.
•The incoming mayor, Mr Albert Boutwell, considered more moderate on racial issues than the incubment, Mr Art Hames, and the other new officials may have to go into court to remove the present administration which . has refuted to step down, said United Press International
