HOTFOOT WINS
Hot Foot improved a short but high-class record by winning the Warstep Stakes for her Wingaitui breeder-owner-trainer, D. P. Wilson, at Riccarton yesterday. This was her fifth start for the season, and her fourth win. She was third ’tn her only start as a two-year-old. Hot Foot’s winnings for the season are £l3OO and she is fast building the foundations of a record comparable to that of her dam, Frances, which was of the best class. Hot Foot is a bay filly by The Cobbler, which also sired Cobble, the Warstep Stakes second.
Hot Foot won decisively by a length and a half, running out a mile very strongly, though she had pulled hard two wide alongside the trailing Can-auiana early in the race.
Gold Shower tried to lead all the way and started the last five furlongs with a length on Cobble, which had then joined Canadiana. just ahead of Hot Foot.
Brown Brocade started to run wider out coining to the home turn, and Scuffle was then making ground on the inside.
Gold Shower was beaten after straightening, leaving Cobble in front going to the furtong with Hot Foot challenging. Brown Brocade was wider out, but not making any headway. Hot Foot had it won at the half furtong. Cobble beat Magic Flute by two lengths for second and then there was half a length to Scuffle, which had drifted at the start and had to change course to get a run in the straight. Brown Brocade was half a neck behind Scuffle and was well clear of the others. Hornpipe, which won this race last year, finished in a gap of five ’c-ngths at the rear.
