Shield Retained By Grevmouth (From Out Own Reporter/ GREYMOUTH. April 15. The Greymouth teem retained the South Island Catholic Rugby Association's shield when ft beat Christchurch Marist. by 9 points to 3. in the final at Rugby Park this afternoon Christchuarch led by 3 points to 0 at half-time The game was played on a soft ground after overnight rain, but it. neverthless, produced some very bright football for a large gathering of spectators. Early Lead to Christchurch B. Conelly opened the scoring for Christchurch after 14 minutes with a penalty goal. B C >nradson was unlucky in not kicking a couple of penalty goals for Greymouth. The first time the ball hit an upright from 35 yards out, and a few minutes later, he just missed the post with a kick from a position 45 yards away The second spell had been in progress nine minutes when Conradson evened the scores with a penalty goal. Then, at the end of 11 minutes and 29 minutes, he added two more penalty goals to give his side victory. The referee was Mr W J Brown, of Hokitika, a former representative official from Christchurch. It was a coincidence that he controlled the final match of the same tournament in Greymouth 10 years ago First Fifteen At the conclusion of the tournament the following players were selected as being the first fifteen of Marist players in the South Island:— Full-back, D Arnold (Dunedin): wings. J. Harnett (Greymouth), K Noonan (Christchurch); centre. W. Greig (Gore): five-eighths. J. Hannan (Christchurch). W Ryall (Greymouth); half-back. B Coulter (Christchurch), captain: back row. T Whyte (Gore); middle row, D. Kennedy (Timaru), J. Bums (Christchurch). J. Casey (Dunedin). P. Angland (Christchurch); props, W Stafford < Blenheim), P. Prendergast (Ashburton): hooker. G. Groves (Timaru). vice-captain.
