AIR SHOW CRASH
Liu Sees MiG Fall (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, April 13. A Russian-built jet fighter of the Indonesian Air Force plungea out of control and crashed today during an air display for the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China <Mr Liu Shao-chi). Mr Liu and Indonesia's President Soekarno watched from a canopied dais as the fighter hit the ground during an exhibition by the republic’s Soviet-supplied jet fighter and bomber squadrons. Chairman Liu banged his hand on his knee to mark the impact as the plane , went down with its 26-year-old Egyptian-trained pilot. Lieutenant Sumarsono, at the controls.
The pageant, held at Djakarta's Kemajoran Airport, featured formation flying and aerobatics by missile-carrying TUI6 “badger'' jet bombers and MiG fighters of the 17. 19 and 21 class.
It was during an aerobatic display that the MIGI9 plungeo into the ground less than a mile from where the official party was sitting.
