They are (on the left) Viljo Heino, of Finland, who in 1949 broke the world record set 10 years earlier by another Finnish runner, Taisto Maki (right). In the centre is the man who broke Heino’s and bis own record several times, Emil Zatopek, of Czechoslovakia.
