MARATHON IN S.A.
N on-Whites To Start Later
(N .Z .P A -Reuter—Copyright) BLOEMFONTEIN, April 4. Non-white runners will start half an hour later than white competitors in the South African marathon championships at Bloemfontein on Friday. The times by the nonwhites will be considered when the selectors choose the Republic’s team for the international marathon in Athens mi May 19. Originally it was planned for non-whites to run the course on Friday and the South African championship for whites to be held over the same route on Saturday. But because Saturday is a public holiday and the roads may be congested, it was decided to stage the marathon for both sets of competitors on Friday.
