It is proposed later to introduce American History. Successful applicants will be encouraged to pursue their individual research interests, and it is intended to make financial provision for microfilming of documents. JOHNSON, Registrar. 2344 THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDIES Research School of Pacific Studies APPLICATIONS are Invited for a number of temporary posts in the Departments of Economics and International Relations to conduct research made possible by a special grant to the University. Research Is planned within the following subjects: Foreign Aid in South-east Asia; economic and political aspects including Australian donor experience; Economic position of Japan in South-east Asia; Regional Trade and Development Problems of Asia; Overseas Investment In Australia; Communism in Asia. Detailed programmes of research will be left for successful applicants to define in agreement with Professor Sir John Crawford, Director of the School, who Is responsible for the supervision and administration of the grant and Professor J. D. B. Miller, Professor of International Relations. Five or six posts are open within the Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow ranges <£Al656-2450 p.a. and EA26203160) and appointments will be made at levels corresponding to candidates' experience and qualifications. Special appointments will be considered outside these limits if necessary. They will be for three years, though shorter periods may be arranged. Favourable consideration will be given to necessary fieldwork and overseas travel. Research assistants will be recruited when needed. Publication of results Is expected. Persons appointed will be full members of the staff and have full access to the facilities of the University.
