PROTEST BY WOMEN
“Undeveloped” Area Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 9. A doaan women and 30 children blocked Abbots Way, Auckland, this morning to draw attention to the "disgusting" condition of the road and the lack of footpaths and sewage services in the area. Stretching prams and pushchain across the road directly opposite Waiatarua Park, the women stood shoulder to shoulder and blocked traffic going both ways. About 80 cars and trucks had to detour back to Ladies* Mile or Marua road. Only four motorists ware allowed through the blockade. One was going to the dentist, one to a funeral, and two to doctors. Several trucks get past by ploughing through the gorse at the side of the road. Traffic officers and police persuaded the women to move off the read after an hour and a guartar.
