Air Pollution
Sir, —While the origin of king cancer and its connexion with cigarette smoke and air pollution is still argued, no-one can doubt that bronchitis is stimulated by smog, fog and smoke. If protection from these irritants is to be afforded, why are the known sources tolerated when certain scientific methods of prevention might save lives? Public bodies should set an example by passing regulations for air clearance. Methods of rubbish disposal for profit could rid the city of much unhealthy smoke. Notices prohibiting smoking in public buildings and transport would remind of the need for health protection now—not in the next 10 years while deaths and suffering continue and while children are exposed to bad examples and risks. —Yours, etc., ADVANCE NOW.
