IRONSANDS INDUSTRY
Directors To Be Appointed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 5. A provisional board of directors to undertake detailed planning of an iron and steel industry is to be appointed by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) “I hope to name members of the provisional board at at early date.” Mr Marshall said today. The Government would do all it could—consistent with careful planning—to enable the industry to be in operation by the target year of 1966, he said. In a production basis of 150.000 tons of steel a year from New Zealand’s ironsands there is expected to be a yearly saving of about £5.5 million in overseas exchange
Mr Marshal] said the board’s job would be to provide as quickly as possible the best workable proposals that would lead to the establishment of an operating company.
