FRANCE AND EGYPT
Relations Restored (N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, April 5. France and Egypt have resumed diplomatic relations which were broken off at the time of the Suez crisis. Yesterday's agreement, particularly welcomed in Paris, lifted hopes for an early resumption of traditional cultural relations and increasing trade. Since last year’s Cairo “spy trial” involving four French diplomats. French purchases of Egyptian goods have been very limited. Trade has been mainly restricted to a few barter deals —chiefly Egyptian long staple cotton and onions in exchange for French manufactured goods and pharmaceutical products.
Resumption ot FrenchUnited Arab Republic relations means normal links have been restored between France and all the Arab nations which broke off relations during ie Suez crisis. Britain and the U.A.R. renamed diplomatic relations in December. 1959.
