GREY LYNN SEAT
Labour Policy On Candidate (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 4. The Labour Party has decided that its candidate in the Grey Lynn by-election on May 18 will also be the candidate for the seat when the new boundaries come into force for the General Election at the end of the year. This decision would mean that the sitting .member for Ponsonby, Mr R. Macdonald, now touring South-east Asia with a Parliamentary party, will be excluded from the contest unless he is prepared to resign his present seat By doing so he would precipitate another by-election for which the Labour Party would have to find a caretaker candidate. Ponsonby will disappear when the new boundaries take effect. The party made a similar decision before its candidate, Mr R. J. Tizard, was returned at the Otahuhu by-election last month.
