SCHOOL’S 92nd ANNIVERSARY

300 Gather At West Melton Three hundred former pupils and teachers of the West Melton School have been attending the school’s ninetysecond anniversary celebrations during the week-end. A ball was well attended on Friday evening, and on Saturday morning the day’s programme began when members of the official party were presented with floral sprays by pupils of the school. Mr J. H. Weaver, chairman of the Paparua County Council, officially opened the celebrations in the afternoon, when an informal gathering was held. Group photographs of the various decades were taken. A banquet on Saturday evening was attended by the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine), who is member of Parliament for the district, and Mr D. Waghorn, the Education Board’s member for Malvern. The oldest pupil present, Mrs A. Aitken, aged 94, cut the anniversary cake. Yesterday a church service was conducted by the Rev. R. H. Wells and the Rev. W. W. Robinson in the school grounds.
