Experts Return From Overseas (NX. Press Axodatton) AUCKLAND, Mar. 29. The man whose final report will decide the type of jet airliners to be used by Tasman Empire Airways. Captain J. R. McGrane, the assist-ant-general manager, returned to Auckland today after “having a close look at the hardware” involved. He is faced with two or three weeks of concentrated paper work before submitting the report to a meeting of the T.E.A.L. board of directors. The board, in turn, will make its recommendation to the Government by the end of April. The Government’s decision will need to be made shortly to allow for ordering and delivery time of the aircraft as well as crew training. Captain McGrane headed a team comprising T.E.A.L.’s project engineer. Mr F R Minton, and the assistant chief engineer, Mr G. Kemp They concentrated on three machines—the Boeing and Douglas planes built in the United States, and the VCIO. the rear-engined jet airliner now under construction in England. Captain McGrane has flown in all three of them, but could not be drawn on any preference He said the economics had to be studied as well as their performances over various route distances.
