Press Association) PALMERS'TON N„ Mar. *>9 A new hybrid ryegrws which shows every indication of answering some of the prayers of the New Zealand farmer has been developed at the Grasslands Division of the D.S.I.R. in Palmerston North. The director, Dr. P. D Sears, said today that the new strain was a new concept of pasture. it had been known as “the new long rotation ryegrass" but because of difficulties with international registration this name could not be used, he said Until a name acceptable to the international authorities was chosen. Grasslands preferred the term. "new hybrid ryegrass.” Dr Sears said the hybrid had been bred by crossing perennial and short-rotation ryegrasses, with the selection emphasis towards the dense perennial ryegrass type, of plant.
