LEUKEMIA IN DIPTON

‘Not Startlingly High’ (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, March 29 Preliminary investigations by the Health Department indicated there was nothing to show that the incidence of leukemia at Dipton, Northern Southland, was "startlingly high,” Dr. S. H Moore, medical officer of health at Invercargill said today “The figures show that the incidence of leukemia in the area was certainly above the New Zealand average for a period.” he said, "but in other years and in other areas the incidence could also have been above New Zealand average.” Toe department began investigations in the Dipton area after the December meeting of the Southland Hospital Board was told that some families had considered moving from the area because of the high incidence of the disease.
