TWO SEAMEN ESCAPE
30ft Dive And i Mile Swim (N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY. March 29. Two American sailors in custody aboard the U.S. supply ship, Ameb. escaped early today, by diving 30ft from the main deck and swimming a quarter of a mile to the Sydney Domain. The seamen, both aged 19, are believed to be walking around clad only in dungarees. socks and shoes. They discarded their shirts after reaching shore. Police rushed to the domain area but could find only soma footprints, and the shirts The seamen were put In custody after their absence without leave on March 5 from the U.S. destroyer . urrant. They were recaptured. two days ago, at King’s Cross. With another 18-year-old seaman, they were put under custody on board the Arneb.
On their previous escape the sailors were believed to have been heading for New Zealand.
