FRENCH STRIKES
Paris Bus Men Out (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, March 29. Paris bus workers started thei. threatened "action day” to press wage claims with a vengeance today. Three huge depots began a surprise 24-hour strike when only short-period strikes had been expected. Only 18 of the 208 buses on the lines serviced by the three garages were operating today. Strikes by underground rail way workers were expected later today The underground was also expected to close when electricity workers cut off the current in their second day of work stoppages. Outside the capital, the nation-wide strike by France’s 241,000 coalminers entered its fifth week Tens of thousands of strikers are expected to converge on Lens, the centre of the northern mining basin, for a mass meeting.
