La Scala And Trapper In Sound Trial

A sound run over two miles by La Scala and Trapper and a solid mile and a half by Reprimand were highlights of a quiet morning at Addington yesterday. Conditions were ideal for training, with the horses working about 12 feet out from the rails.

La Scala made the pace for Trapper throughout an easy two miles in 4min 45 3-5 sec, the last half-mile in Imin 3 2-ssec and the last quarter in 31 4-ssec. Both horses were doing their work well at the finish.

La Scala has been a little disappointing in his last two starts for he has failed to pace evenly. He has drawn tile second line in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes tomorrow and wiß need plenty of luck to escape trouble He looks well and paced perfectly in his workout. Trapper is a candidate for the New Zealand Trotting Stakes on the second day of the meeting. He looks to have improved since his race at Methver. last Saturday when he finished a close sixth. Reprimand trotted keenly on his own over one mile and a half in Jmin 18 3-ssec, the last half-mile in imin 5 l-ssec. and the final quarter in 32sec. Reprimand looks fit for his engagement in the Stewards’ Handicap, in which he will start from 24 yards. Mighty Hanover made the pace, but was being shaded by Admiral and Pohutukawa. with Avante three lengths away, at the end of one mile and a quarter in Zmin 44 3-seec, the last half-mile in Imin 5 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 32 4-5 to. Mighty

Hanover will be a rival of Reprimand in the Stewards’ Handicap. He looks to be trotting more generously than earlier in the season Admiral, which has shown speed in his earlier races this season, is in the New Zealand Pacing Stakes on the second day of the meeting. Pohutukawa is not engaged until the New Zealand Hambletonian Handicap on the final day of the meeting He looks to have done well lately and trotted boldly throughout his trial. Patchy’s Trial Patchy, a favoured candidate for the New Zealand Welcome Stakes, worked on his own over one mile and a quarter. He took 2min 14 2-seec for his last mile, his last half-mile easily in Imin 7 4-ssec, and his last quarter in 30 2-ssec. Patchy has dfawn wide, but it will not be surprising if he takes a prominent part in the finish. His dam. Glint, won this race in 1955 after a stern struggle over the final furlong with Pointer. Astralight, the likely fav-

curite for the Spreydon Handicap, worked easily on his own over two miles in tain 45sec, the last half-mile in Imin 5 2-ssec, and the final quarter in 30 3-ssec. Astraligiht looks fit and he should win at the meeting. Our Jimmy and Loyal Brigade went easily over one mile and a half in 3min 29sec, the last half-mile in Imin 7sec, and the final quarter in 32sec. Florita worked over the same distance on her own in 3min 29sec, the last halfmile in lmdn 3sec. She is a candidate for the Rattray Handicap, the first leg of the double

Zagar made the pace for Meadow Scott in their run over two miles in tain 33 1- the last half-mile in Imin 5 4-ssec. and the final quarter in 32 l-ssec. The New Zealand Trotting Stakes candidate, Gay Lynn, and Turbulence went quietly over one mile and a half in 3min 42sec, speeding up a little to sprint the final quarter in 32 4-ssec. Gay Lynn has disappointed by failing to begin smoothly in her races so far. She has a splendid style of trotting and could eventually develop worth while form. Carver Doon went very easily over two miles. He finished strongly after taking Imin 7 l-ssec for his last four furlongs, the final quarter in 31 3-ssec. Carver Doon will not be without a chance in the Preliminary Handicap. Marino Miaid and Last Beam went over one mile and a half in 3min 23 l-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 6 2- Last Beam is now being trained by A. J. Bourne.
