S. RHODESIA DISPUTE
U.N. Committee May Act (N.Z.P.A.-Reut«r—Copyright) NEW YORK, March 26. The United Nations Special Committee on Colonialism today appeared ready to dispatch a sub-committee to London to discuss the Southern Rhodesia question with the British Government. The United Nations wants Britain to rescind the 1961 Constitution and call a new constitutional conference. The Northern Rhodesian African Government leaders who walked out of talks yesterday with Britain’s Central African Affairs Minister (Mr Buter) cabled their respective parties in Northern Rhodesia today to “please keep the •peace.” Mr Butler had another meeting today with Mr Winston Field, the Southern Rhodesian Prime Minister, to continue the talks on the future of the Central African Federation, and was to meet Sir Roy Welensky, the Federal Prime Minister, later. Africans In Government.— The number of Africans in senior posts in the Kenya Civil Service has risen from 1098 in January, 1962, to 1564 in January this year. In July, 1960, the figure was 637.
