Two Brood Mares For Australia The New South Wales owner-breeder, Mr R Croghan, who paid IgOOgns for three brood mares at the annual sale of standard-bred brood mares last Friday, spent another 2100gns to purchase additional stock privately during his short visit to New Zealand:
Mr Croghan’s additional purchases included two brood mares and a three-year-old sister to the champion pacer. Lordship. The brood mares were Scotch Girl and Snow Jane, which were both bought from Mr H. B. Kay, of Christchurch.
Scotch Girl was a good class race mare which met with an accident before the best was seen of her. The unraced Snow Jane is the dam of the good winners. Slick Chick and Snow Globe.
Scotch Giri and Snow Jane are closely related to the champion pacer, Cardigan Bay. They are both daughters of U. Scott and Pleasure Bay, which also left Colwyn Bay, the dam of Cardigan Bay, to Joeedale Dictator. Direct Rhythm Sold Direct Rhythm has been sold by Mr A. H. V. Berry tn the Christchurch ownertrainer, V. L. Davies. Direct Rhythm, a seven-year-old entire by Johnny Globe from Pirouette, will probably go to Australia. He has not raced this season and was unplaced in five starts as a six-year-old. Direct Rhythm reached a 4min 3Qsec marie for two miles when trained by D. G Nyhan, at Templeton.
Visit To Clubs In South
The President of the New Zealand Trotting Conference (Mr W H. Roche) and the secretary of the conference (Mr J. Rowley) will leave today on a visit to trotting clubs from "Hmara south. They hope to have discussions with officials of all southern clubs, including those in Central Otego and Southland. They will attend the Winton Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday before returning north on Sunday.
