SALES TAX ANOMALY
Levy On Bus Tickets (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 27. Top transport men complained today that sales tax was still levied on bus tickets while “get well” cards were exempted. ‘This is* an anomaly which has existed for a number of years,” said the genera] manager of the Auckland Transport Board, Mr C. R. Gribble. Lubricating oils were also subject to sales tax. Both seemed so inequitable,” he said. The sales tax came under fire during a two-day conference of transport board general managers and chief engineers which began in Auckland today. Delegates are attending from the four main centres, New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Invercargill. The conference decided to make further representations tc the Government on the matter of sales tax through the Public Passenger Transport Association. Another item which caused concern was the increasing cost of spare parts for vehicles, not only those imported from other countries but the spare parts also made in New Zealand.
