FINE TRIAL BY DANE

Dane, a beaten favourite in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes on Saturday, showed that he has taken vast improvement from that race when he galloped brilliantly on the Inside trial at Awapuni today. Dane came to the post full of running and he looks ready for a better effort this week In the Stonyhurst Handicap. Here Goes galloped with a fair amount of dash, and others to please included Outcome, KarInx. Noranda, Cloudy Robe. Maid of the Oaks, Royal Serena. Elrey. Diavolo and Golden Sabrina. On the inside trial. Dane (Taylor) ran right away from Yvonne’s Pride (Mullane) at the end of five furlongs in IS 1-3, the last three in 38 l-ssec. Dane went keenly and was most Impressive. His first-day race has Improved him considerably and he might go a lot better in the Stonyhurst Handicap this week.

Winchester (Stoodley), which shows a fair amount of promise went smartly over half a mile in 49sec, the last three in 36sec. A filly by Final Court, Winchester makes her debut in the Stonyhurst Handicap on Saturday.

On the course proper. Here Goes (Mahoney) went keenly over six furlongs in 1:19 3-ssec, the last three in 40 l-ssec. It was a useful effort by Here Goes, which has not raced since Trentham. He is a fresh horse to the meeting and contests the Longburn Handicap on Saturday. Karinx (Rudd) and Count Lin (Taylor) were well matched at the end of six furlongs in 130, the last three in 39 3-ssec. Karinx has done well since Trentham and looks a definite prospect in the Tamatete Handicap Count Lin has drawn wide in the Karere High-weight and is not a certain runner, though rain this week would improve his Chances of starting. He looks to have thrived since Trentham.

Maid of the Oaks (Whiteman) was far too good for Captain Gay (Mrs Christmas) when they ran five furlongs in 1:4 4-5, the last three in 41sec. Maid of the Oaks is well and will be worthy of respect in the Woodbey Hack Handicap. Bagush (Taylor) ran from the five furlongs in IS, the last three in 42 3-3eec. Challen (O'Neill) ran easily over five furtongs in 13 3-5, the last three in 41sec. She seemed to have every chance in the Awapuni Gold Cup. Elrey (McGovern) and Diavolo (Lord) ran solidly over six furlongs in 1:19. the last three tn 40 3-Ssec. It was a good effort Drey’s race on Saturday has improved him. If there is any easing of the ground he might run well in the Kerere High-weight.
