Elementary dancing knowledge an asset though not absolutely necessary. A part in a million for the right man who should be prepared for regular attendance at rehearsals. MARION PAROO: Female lead. Mezzo soprano voice of top quality. In her late twenties, somewhat spinsteriah in manner at first. Good appearance and figure essential. MAYOR SHINN: Fine character part of small-town Mayor out to undermine the, popularity of the Music Man. Irascible in manner, but his lines and actions account for many laughs. Age around 30. MARCELLUS WASHBURN: Light baritone, aged 30-40. Jovial and engaging presence necessary and a little dancing ability. Friend and confederate in the Music Man’s swindling activities. and like that part, requires slick and polished treatment. MRS PAROO: Mother of leading lady, aged late 4O'« or early 50’s, required to sing one song. A delightful part of buxsome Irish-American Matron to suit a character actress. WINTHROP PAROO: Boy of 10 years with a song to sing. He is badly affected by a lisp which makes him self-conscious, yet everyone likes him. Gay and quiet in turns, and has some good acting. A good chance for a talented juvenile. EULALIE MACKECHNIE SHINN: Wife of Mayor and would-be-leader of cultural arts in this one-horse town. Good comedy sense indispensible, fair amount of singing. Tall matronly figure an advantage in this lovely part. ZANEETA SHINN: 16-year-old daughter of Mayor, a vivacious girl discovering her first love. Should be a brilliant dancer and able to act. Group singing only. TOMMY DJILAS: A good role for a young man about 10 years with acting ambitions who can dance and act the part of courting Zaneeta, much to the Mayor's disgust. AMARYLLIS: Girl of 9 or 10, piano pupil of Marion Paroo. Must speak clearly, act well and able to play piano, music of which is not too difficult. Small amount of dancing and group singing. CHARLIE COWELL: Character study of travelling salesman determined to have the Music Man kicked out of town. Nonsympathetic part, but extremely rewarding to right performer. Non-singing. Age, to look about 30-35. EWART DUNLOP. OLIVER HIX, JACEY SQUIRES, OLIN BRITT: This singing Quartette with several good numbers, after the style of a Barber's Shop Quartette, is an outstanding feature of the allow. Agee 3045. acting ability necessary, and are required to sing and act in other parts of the production. The following four character women appear in most scenes and make a quartette of vastly different types: ALMA HIX: A dominating character with strong, if not sweet, singing voice. A busy body and gossip on the committee of all focal bodies. Comedy sense essential. MAUD DUNLOP: A featherbrained type of married woman about 38 to 40. Required to sing several lines and be able to handle comedy. ETHEL TOFFELMIER: Must be stout in figure, being well over average weight. Good timing required in comedy situations. Several lines to sing In special songs. MRS SQUIRES: A small, plain and birdlike woman with natural comedy sense to appear with above three. CONSTABLE LOCKE: Should be tall, as appearance is important. Non-singing, but appears in all chorus scenes. Producer: STAN LAWSON.
