Death Toll Of 130
(N .Z.P.A.‘Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, Mar. 19 The death toil in the Mount Agung eruption on the Island of Bali has reached 130 as the volcano continued to belch forth lava and ash, according to travellers reaching Djakarta. The chief editor of the "National Geographic Magazine,” Mr Windsor Booth, who arrived in Djakarta yesterday after a visit to the island said, "even more” villagers may have died Thick ash, a quarter of an inch in diameter, was blanketing the island and ruining rice crops, he said. The official Antara news agency reported today ash from Mount Agung has been falling on Madura Island and East Java, separated from Bali by a narrow strait. Ash Blots Out Sun The mayor of the East Java capital of Surabaya ordered the closure of all schools to the city yesterday after clouds of ash blotted out the sun. “Complete darkness” fell on the city shortly after noon and traffic jams occurred, Antara said.
