Munro Resigns; Returning To N.Z.
(NX J’-A.-Reuter—Copyright) • GENEVA, March 5. The Secretary-General of the International Commission of Jurists, Sir Leslie Munro, has resigned for personal reasons, the commission announced in Geneva today.
It was believed that Sir Leslie Munro, a former President of the United Nations General Assembly, would return to New Zealand shortly. The date of the departure for New Zealand of Sir Leslie Munro and Lady Munro has not yet been fixed. It was authoritatively learnt that Sir Leslie Munro planned to take an active part in public life in New Zealand after his return.
Sir Leslie Munro resigned on Sunday after he had told the executive committee of commission of his intention, and the commission accepted
with regret, the announcement said. It added that the commission expressed to Sir Leslie Munro its “profound appreciation for both precious and competent assistance.” Sir Leslie Munro will continue to be a member of the commission and will take part in its work.
The International Commission of Jurists is a nongovernmental organisation which has an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council Its members are 27 top lawyers, attorneya-generaL and supreme court judges from the non-Communist world.
