REMOVING SAFE

Men Chased In Car (NX Prow Association) AUCKLAND, February 25. A Gisborne man visiting Auckland chased two men in a ear around the back streets of Ellerslie early on Sunday morning after he disturbed them removing a safe from a service station. Mr J. E. Rusling, a garage proprietor, of Makaraka, Gisborne, was pointing out to a passenger that “his nephew worked there” when he saw two men preparing to load a safe cm to a light van outside Holmes Auto Services, Ltd., 171 Main Highway, Ellerslie, about 130 am. He swung his car around and the two men jumped into their vehicle and made off with Mr Rusling in pursuit His lack of knowledge of the district caused him to lose them. He picked up the van again when it reappeared from another quarter but lost it once more in the back streets.

The men had gained entry to • the service station by knocking two panes of glass out of the front door. They trundled the safe about 25 feet before they were disturbed.

They escaped with about £2O or £25 in change from the office.
