Reporters Asked To Leave Meeting
MASTERTON, Feb. 25. Two reporters were tonight asked to leave a Labour Party meeting in Masterton. The guest speaker was Miss M. B. Howard, member for Sydenham. Miss Howard had told the reporters before her address what her theme would be. The reporters said they would attend; Miss Howard agreed that they could. She told them before leaving for her address at Fraser Memorial Hall that she would speak on the Mental Health Act and the “pushing of elderly people from hospital board institutions to mental homes because of insufficient accommodation.”
The reporters arrived soon after 8 p.m. and were courteously ushered to seats near the speaker's platform. Miss Howard welcomed the

reporters with “Aah . . . here come the reporters.” Both men began taking notes of her preliminary remarks. While she was speaking Mr J. Williams tecretary of the Masterton □ranch of the Labour Party the reporters to leave. TTiis meeting was not open to the press.” said Mr Williams. “The meeting is only for friends and supporters of the Labour Party.” An advertisement yesterday had announced: “Friends and supporters will be welcome.” The reporters then left the meeting while Miss Howard was still talking.
