TALKS ON TRADE
Mr Marshall For London (N.Z. Preu Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. The Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) will attend a meeting of Commonwealth trade Ministers in London in May before going to Geneva for the Ministerial meeting of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade to be held from May 16 to 21. Announcing this after today’s Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister (Mr Hqlyoake) said the London talks would provide an opportunity for an exchange of views on the trade problems and prospects of Commonwealth countries after the breakdown of Britain’s negotiations with the EJB.C. Because of .the wider implications these talks would also deal with the broader problems of how world-trade generally could be increased. "The Geneva discussions are of fundamental importance for New Zealand because of our critical dependence on access to markets for our agricultural exports. The question of access and the reduction of or removal ,of tariffs .and other barriers to trade will be the main topics for consideration at Geneva,” said Mr Holyoake.
