DODGING DEBTS
Emigrants Take H.P. Goods (NJt Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 24. Many Britons submerged in hire-purchase debts were packing their bags—and their hire-purchase possessions—and migrating to Australia and New Zealand, the London “Sunday Citizen” said today. The newspaper said: “As more and more people migrate, an increasing number of unpaid goods are staying unpaid, where they can’t be reclaimed, in Australia and New Zealand. “The never-never travellers know they can get away with it because it costs the finance companies too much to chase after them."
The “Sunday citizen”-said: “One -young couple brought a new dining suite, record player and television set on hire purchase. Total value wag £l5O. The man lost his job, sold the goods—then caught the boat for New Zealand.”
