The shrimp fisherman, Benjamin Washington, survived an attack by Cuban MiO fighters and a debut on national television, but not a sailor’s night •on the town. Washington ended up in gaol and missed his boat. United Press International reported. The 27-year-old sailor and the skipper of the boat, Ala. Paris Jackson, both negroes, were each given 50 dollars to appear on a television news programme to tell how they were attacked by four Cuban jets last Wednesday. The pair checked into a hotel in Miami after the show on Thursday night, planning to return to Key West the next day to wait tor the Coast Guard the tow their disabled 67-foot boat to port. But Washington told his skipper he wanted to have a few beers. He was arrested at 3 am. and charged with public drunkenness. He told police he had met a girl in a bar and that was all he could • emember. His money was gone and he could not raise baiL A photographer bailed Washington out and put him on a bus for Key West to Join Jackson. who met the boat alone.
