Sir,—The imprisonment in England of two reporters does violence to all one’s ideas of British justice. They are imprisoned in spite of the fact that English law has nothing against either their methods of news-gathering or the accuracy of their statements. The freedom of the press is one of the most valuable safeguards of our freedom and I hope it could not happen here. If it could, then every candidate at the next election should be asked his views on the matter of granting reporters the necessary privileges and immunity to safeguard their freedom to work in the best interests of our freedom, which is being subtly whittled away through lack of the required ‘'eternal vigilance.”—Yours, etc.,
D. E. CURRIE. February 2, 1963.
