EXCESSIVE USE OF WHIP
Drivers Fined At Orari
L. J. Fahey and M. Purdon were both fined £5 for excessive use of the whip at the Geraldine Trotting Club’s meeting at Orari on Saturday. Fahey drove Sentimental Lass in the Temuka Handicap, and Purdon was the driver of Enrich in the Geraldine Cup.
After the running of the Stewards’ Handicap an objection was lodged against the second placing of Hoana, which broke in the last furlong. After hearing evidence and viewing a photo of the finish, it was decided that Hoana had gained no advantage and the objection was dismissed.
G. R. Hore, the trainer of Willycan, was fined £5 tor the late scratching of the horse. Hoana had been an acceptor at two ■ different meetings. Stood Down
After the running of the Invitation Stakes an inquiry was held into the racing manners of Break Through. After hearing evidence it. was decided to declare Break Through ineligible to start at a totalisator meeting until May 17, 1963. During the running of the Invitation Stakes Lochie broke just past the winning post the first time and squeezed La Scala on to Peerswick, whose sulky collided with the running rail The incident put both La Scala and Peerswick out of the race. The connexions of Morrisa were warned after the Temuka Handicap that improvement must be shown in the horse’s racing manners. Morrisa’s trainer stated that she is to be turned out for six months. J. D. Litten. the trainer of Forward Belle, was questioned regarding the horse’s racing manners after she had finished a bad last in the second division of the Temuka Handicap. Litten stated that Forward Belle choked during the running. No further action was taken. r
