I.C.I. ACID PLANT
New Project For Aust. (N.ZJ>.A.-R«Urr— CoppripM) MELBOURNE. Feb. 22. Imperial Chemical Industrie* of Australia and New Zealand. Ltd., would build the largest sulphuric acid plant in _ the Southern Hemisphere at its YarraviUe works, seven miles from Melbourne, the chairman (Mr K. G. Begg) Mid last night. Mr Begg said the acid produced at the plant would be used by Commonwealth Fertilisers and Chemicals, Ltd., other members of the 1.C.1A.N.Z. group, and some would be for sale.
Mr Begg said the plant—of the contact type—would cost about £ 1.25 m and have a daily capacity of more than 500 tons of concentrated sulphuric acid' and oleum. The investment in Fibremakers. Ltd,, woud add considerable financial strength to the company, he Mid. During the last year the company had continued to develop its manufacturing
activities in spite of the difficult economic conditions of 1961.
