BUS CONCESSION SOUGHT
Senior Citizens’ Association
The Christchurch Transport Beard is to be asked to give a six-month trial to concession fares on buses. This was decided by members of the Christchurch Senior Citizens’ Association at the annual meeting.
The proposed scheme is that for a half-yearly cost of 10s 6d, senior citizens would be issued with a ticket allowing them transport on any bus between the hours of 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.
Most senior citizens had to live on a weekly pension of £4 15s. Many could afford only one trip to town each week. A concession ticket giving unlimited rides for a six-month period would enable old folk to get out more and make life more interesting, said the secretary, Mirs H. V. Coppard.
Officers elected were.— President: Mr E. H. Moore: vice-president: Mr L. R. Sanders; secretary: Mrs H. V. Ooppard; committee: Messrs J. C. Davidson, W. E. Davie, H. J. Gracie, E. C. Phillpott, S. E. Underhay. Mesdames H. V. Coppard, E. M. Eden, V. Winter.
