PERSISTENT STOWAWAY

The “king of stowaways,” Stephen Brown, was determined to reach New Zealand, but his first two attempts bad failed, the "Daily Mirror” said today. Brown was fined £2O yesterday for stowing away aboard a ship. Brown, a 31-year-old clerk, explained outside the Court: “I have, always been fascinated by' the sea. I used to dream about it as I sat at my desk in a stuffy city office. “Then' my girl friend emigrated to New Zealand and I was determined to follow her.”
This was Brown’s stowaway diary, according to the “Daily Mirror”: December 4.—Hid on the New Zealand-bound Southern Cross at Southampton. Discovered at Trinidad and put aboard the Lon-don-bound Iberia. December 24.—Gaoled for 14 days in England. January 7.—Freed and stowed away on the Iberia at Tilbury. January 22.—Discovered near Ceylon and transferred to the homegoing Strathmore. February B.—Leap for freedom into the Suez Canal. Gaoled for five days by Egyptians. February 14.—Put cm board the Chusan. which docked at Tilbury yesterday. Fined £2O. Last night the ace stowaway was determined to get back to sea—by working for a shipping line, the “Daily Mirror” said.
