Nice-Regal The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) has notified the Canterbury Society of Arts that he will consent to be patron of the society. The president (Mr Paul Pascoe) said the society welcomed this news, as it had enjoyed vice-regal patronage for many years.
Mr R. Ferner, a retired stipendiary, magistrate, of Christchurch, has been appointed chairman of the Government • Railways Appeal Board for three years. Mr R. R. Clarke, assistant administration officer, mechanical branch. Railways Department, Wellington, has been appointed a member of the board for two years. Mr R. Woolerton has been appointed a director of the State Advances Corporation. Mr J. D. Pascoe, of Wellington, has been appointed to a temporary position as acting chief archivist of the National Archives Branch of the Department of Internal Affairs. —(PA.) The Ven. L. O’S. Beere, the Archdeacon of Waitemata and Vicar of St Aidan’s Church, Remuera, has been appointed Archdeacon of Auckland. He succeeds the Rev. A. E. Prebble. who has taken up an appointment in England. —(P.A.)
